WHITE
La Vieille Ferme
Côtes du Lubéron White 2007 . . . . . 6.59
86/100 - Wine Spectator. “Open-knit, with tasty yellow apple, peach
pit and floral notes that linger on the refreshing finish. Grenache
Blanc, Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc and Roussanne. Drink now.”
Domaine Lafage
Cote d’Est Blanc Roussillion 2007 . . . . . 9.49
89/100 - Our score.
90/100 - Wine Advocate. “If the Lafage-Solomon performance of
Novellum seems incredible, their 2007 Cote d’Est – a blend very
different from last year’s, with Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris,
and Chardonnay as well as a small amount of Marsanne – strains
credibility even further. Pungently redolent of toasted grain, citrus
oil, pineapple, almond extract, and narcissus, it is rich and honeyed
on the palate, with persistently wafting floral notes and pungent
counterpoint but no bitterness. It finishes with haunting smokiness
and honeyed length as well as a generous measure of sheer refreshment.
Enjoy it over the coming year.”
Guigal
Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2005 . . . . . 10.99
87/100 - Wine Advocate. “The 2006 Côtes du Rhône white, which is
a blend of about 55% Viognier and the rest Roussanne, Marsanne,
Clairette, and Bourboulenc, is the best white Côtes du Rhône the
Guigals have ever made. An amazing wine, I am not sure it doesn’t
deserve an even higher score, but it was just about ready to go into
the bottle when I tasted it. The wine reveals terrific honeysuckle
notes intermixed with some white peach and tangerine skin in a
medium-bodied, crisp, fruit-driven style with excellent acidity and
depth. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.”
Domaine de Reuilly
Pinot Gris 2007 .................16.99
90/100 - International Wine Cellar. “Pale orange-pink color. Delicate
tangerine and redcurrant aromas are complicated by honeysuckle
and dusty minerals. Impressively pure and brisk on the palate, with
tangy blood orange, red berry and talc flavors. Finishes dry and
clean, with excellent clarity and refreshing cut. This is delicious.”

“Les Petites Bruyeres”
Pouilly-Fuisse 2006 . . . . . 19.99
89+/100 - Our score.
We love good Chardonnay from Burgundy, especially from
these guys. This unoaked Pouilly Fuisse might become
your new favorite. It is richly textured, showing a honey, leesy
quality, lifted by bright apple and pear fruits. It is not lean, however,
as it is 2006 vintage; a ripe and powerful year that has yielded many
friendly Chardonnays. This wine will make many new friends! Try
with Scallops or seafood pasta dishes. Mmmm!

“Les Caillerets”
Chassagne-Montrachet 2005 . . . . . 54.99
93+/100 - Our score.
92/100 - Burghound. “Aromas of brioche and wood spice add nuance
to the mostly citrus and white flower nose that is both airy and
elegant as they announce beautifully precise, textured, sweet and
mouth coating flavors driven by an almost pungent minerality on the
vibrant, pure and long finish. A lovely effort.”
RED
Chateau St. Bernard
Bordeaux Superieur 2005 . . . . . 10.99
88+/100 - Our score.
A great bistro-style Bordeaux at an amazing price.
Mostly Merlot, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon
and Cabernet Franc. Soft and earthy, this is another tremendous
value from the 2005 Bordeaux vintage!
Guigal
Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2005 . . . . . 11.99
89/100 - Wine Advocate. “A blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache,
the 2005 Côtes du Rhône is a real head turner. Full-bodied, with
a deep ruby/purple color and sweet notes of berry fruit, a hint of
road tar, and some pepper, the wine is dense, chewy, ripe, and a
surprisingly big mouthful of juicy, velvety-textured wine to drink over
the next 3-4 years.”

Mas Carlot
“Les Enfants Terribles”
Costierres de Nimes 2006 . . . . . 11.99
89-90/100 - Our score.
A clean, spice and pepper-filled
country wine from the south of France that offers
a slight bit of rusticity.
87-89/100 - Wine Advocate. “This excellent estate in
the Costieres de Nimes continues to turn out some
superb bargain-priced wines that consumers should
seek out for relief from increasingly higher prices
as well as the weak dollar. The 2006 red wines all
reveal zesty acidity, beautiful pure fruit, perhaps not
the structure of the 2005s, but they are more friendly.
The 2006 Costieres de Nimes Les Enfants Terribles
(a 50-50 blend of Mourvedre and Syrah) offers oodles of fruit
along with superb purity and freshness, and a medium-bodied,
savory, luscious personality. Enjoy it over the next 4-5
years.” |

Jean Paul Brun
“Terres d’Orees”
Beaujolais l’Ancienne 2007 . . . . . 14.79
90/100 - Wine Advocate.
89/100 - Our score.
Here is a great Beaujolais with a little bit of controversy
behind it. It has been deemed as atypical by the French wine
police. Atypical because Brun did not add the enzymes, cultured
yeasts, sugars and go through the thermo-vinification techniques of
the more popular Beaujolais producers. This wine is bio-dynamically
produced. Honest and natural, a true expression of the Beaujolais
terroir. You get bright fruit flavors of strawberry, cherry and
minerality that is light and lifted. Simply delicious
with bright acidity that adds length to the finish.
Domaine Parent
Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2006 . . . . . 16.79
90/100 - Our score.
A terrific Burgundy value just in time for your
Thanksgiving feast. Made from 30 year old vines, it offers forward
fruit flavors of black cherry and strawberry, and just enough mineral
to remind you of its origin. Silky smooth, well-balanced and with lip-smacking
acidity, this delicious wine is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Château Tour Peyronneau
St.-Emilion 2005 . . . . . 19.99
90/100 - Wine Spectator. “Wonderful aromas of orange blossom,
berry and fresh licorice lead to a full-bodied palate, with supersilky
tannins and very pretty fruit. Goes on and on. Best after 2011. 4,320
cases made.”
Domaine Leon Barral
Faugeres 2005 . . . . . 21.99
91/100 - Our score.
This is one sturdy red from Faugeres, an appellation
located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. A biodynamically
produced blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Grenache. Cherry liqueur,
plum, garrigue aromas of thyme, and an iron-like minerality. It shows
ripe and meaty flavors that are supple and mouth-coating. A hearty
red that will be the perfect winter warmer.

“Louis Auguste”
Hautes Cotes de Nuits Rouge 2006 . . . . . 29.99
91/100 - Our score.
Good Burgundy under $30 is not easy to find these
days. This wine shows the complexity and structure one looks
for in this price range, and it is sealed with the most unique “cork”
that we’ve ever seen. From the northern section of the Burgundy
region, this wine is juicy and accessible but also serious and lifted.
Fermented and aged in previously used wood, this Pinot shows fresh
red fruits, fresh and dried earth, medium body, medium tannins and
medium-to-high acidity. Try with duck or lamb this fall, dressed with
a pomegranate or cranberry coulis.
Domaine Gros Nore
Bandol 2005 . . . . . 29.99
92/100 - Our score.
One of the top wine finds of the year and it comes
from the sun-drenched appellation of Bandol in the Provence. Over
3000 hours of sunlight during the growing season completely ripens
the Mourvedre, which must be at least 50% of the blend of any
Bandol. Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan are also allowed. The
2005 Gros Nore is 80% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault, 5% Grenache
and 5% Carignan. If you like ‘em rich and chewy and loaded with
muscle then the Gros Nore is right up your alley. Made from 50-70
year old vines, the nose is loaded with red raspberry, black cherry
and licorice. Very full in the mouth with unctous flavors of dried
cherries and red licorice. It finishes with firm
tannins and superb acidity. This is a wine to serve
with flavorful meats and stews.
